Sharks too strong for determined Sutton

The BCD Solway Sharks cruised past Sutton Sting at the Shark Tank on Saturday evening to cement their place at the top of the NIHL (North) D1 Moralee Conference as they scored three goals without reply.

Mark Fowley pounced on a loose puck in the slot to open the scoring at 09:05 with Kim Miettinen and James Wallace picking up assists on the play.

Despite controlling most of the possession and territory Solway found Dmitri Zimozdra impossible to beat again until 36:42 when Jordan Buesa stabbed the puck home from close range (assists to Struan Tonnar and Ben Edmonds).

The final session started brightly for the home side with Mark Fowley and Stevie Moore setting up Daniel Abercrombie to score with a crisp shot from the right-hand face-off circle. However, that was to be the end of the scoring for the night with the Man-of-the-Match Awards going to Martin Finkes for Sutton and to Kieran Hobbins for the Sharks.

Sharks overcome dogged Barons

The BCD Solway Sharks made it four wins out of four in the Moralee Conference with a three-one win over a dogged Solihull Barons side at the Shark Tank on Saturday evening. Thankfully the win was enough to cement their place at the top of the league table but the Sharks, while they were never in serious trouble, rarely produced the form of which they are capable.

Sharks Radio 27-09-16

On Sunday night the Building Craftsmen Dumfries-sponsored Solway Sharks staged a remarkable third period comeback in Billingham to come from 5-2 down to level the match before stealing the win in sudden-death overtime.

It capped a topsy-turvy weekend for the Dumfries club, having lost on Saturday night at home to Blackburn when looking comfortable before Sunday’s thrilling win.  Head coach Martin Grubb took time on Sunday night to reflect on what was a weekend of two halves.

The Solway Sharks are delighted to announce that long-time Sharks supporter Kerri Johnston is the first winner of our Border Hyundai competition to guess how many pucks are in the car parked outside our front door.

During the first interval of our cup game with the Hawks on Saturday evening Dale McIntosh from Border Hyundai presented Kerri with £100 of High Street Vouchers.

Sharks pedal for ward 18

Our young guns were out in force on Saturday morning when they visited our partners Border Skoda at Locharbriggs who are very generously helping to raise money for Ward 15, the children’s ward, at DGRI.

In September, Avery McKnight and friends will be cycling from Lands End to John o Groats to raise funds for charity. Avery’s chosen charity is Ward 15 (Children’s Ward) at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary. Avery is raising funds as a thank you for their ongoing support in Cupar Rush’s 3 year treatment for leukemia.

Border Skoda want to help. In the showroom there is an exercise bike and for every mile that you pedal Border Skoda will donate to this worthy cause. When our Sharks heard of this they jumped at the chance to help out.
